About

Family Lore is a home-based publishing adventure, created for the purpose of publishing the writings of the Newsom family. We have two lines of writing work: I write mainly fiction for young readers, as well as books to encourage families to build a storytelling culture in their homes; while my wife writes practical books on home and family life, particularly on the subject of Thrift and Frugal Living (Angela also teaches classes on how to save money using coupons).

Who are we? I'm William Chad Newsom.  My wife is Angela, beautiful and faithful Wife and Mother of our home. Here are the more official, 3rd person bios:

"Chad and Angela are the parents of six children: five (Grace, William, Nathanael, Abigail, and Kaitlyn) have already been born; one (Áberan Hope) is now with the great Storyteller. Chad is the author of a couple of books published by Christian Focus: The Crown of Fire (historical novel for young readers), and Talking of Dragons: the Children’s Books of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis (family book on building a storytelling culture in the home), as well as a number of published articles. He has contributed to several volumes of the Omnibus curriculum series, published by Veritas Press. His newest efforts are The Nicholas Book: A Legend of Santa Claus (November 2012), and Family Lore: Kindling a Love of Stories in Children, both published by Family Lore Publishing.

"Angela is the founder of the Coupon Makeover website, and has taught thousands of people, in businesses, churches and libraries, how to save 50 - 70% on their grocery bill using coupons. Angela and her work have been featured in Seek the Triad magazine, and The Greensboro News & Record, as well as on the Fox 8 Morning News, News 14, The Good Morning Show, and the award-winning video blog, Bargain Sense. She is the author of Coupon Quick Start Guide: The Easiest, Fastest Way to Serious Savings and Free Groceries. She teaches all her children at home."
Here's a bit more on my (Chad's) line of work.

If you believe that pop culture is destroying the imagination of children, what can you do about it? It begins with the family, of course, where parents have a God-given role in shaping the lives, character, and narratives of their little ones. Others can support in the work – friends, extended family and community, and (especially) the Church – but if Dad and Mom aren’t committed to such a project, it will not get done, except by sheer accident.
That’s where Family Lore Publishing comes in. We’re an average family, like yours, with a deep love of Story and the way it shapes the moral philosophy of people of all sizes, but especially children, who are at the age where character-shaping is most critical.
Stories are not mere entertainment, they are the stuff of life – life is a Story, with, as G.K. Chesterton reminds us, a Storyteller. But that raises more questions: what kind of Story is it? Comedy? Tragedy? “A tale told by an Idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”? And, importantly, which character are you? Your children? Where are we in the story? Somewhere in the middle? Closer to the beginning? Near the end, maybe?
Reading and telling good stories helps shape the way we live in the Great Story of the World. Stories dig into our souls and make us uncomfortable, forcing us to come to grips with the kind of character we really are (not the character we’ve always imagined ourselves to be), and to choose whether to remain as that character…or to change. To take a Story example, will we be Jadis or Edmund?
At Family Lore Publishing, we love to create stories, poems, and non-fiction writings that honor and celebrate the great Story, and its wise Storyteller.

Our first self-created publication, released on September 28, 2011, is my wife's book on how to use coupons (she's a real expert in this area): Coupon Quick Start Guide: The Easiest, Fastest Way to Serious Savings and Free Groceries. Be sure to check out her website: Coupon Makeover).
You can purchase my two books in our online store. And you can find the Omnibus series here (I highly recommend the whole series, though my writings only appear in volumes III, V, and VI). We are preparing several new works for publication in late 2012: books that will help you build a storytelling culture in your home. One is The Nicholas Book: A Legend of Santa Claus, which provides a retelling of the Father Christmas story in light of the Christian faith. The other is a book that will be our signature title, the book that describes what we're all about: Family Lore: Kindling a Love of Stories in Children.

We have also produced a short audio show for families, The Newsom Kids Radio Show, hosted by our children (available soon for download in our store). We are planning more such audio stories and will keep you posted as this project progresses.
Look for regular blog posts (written, audio, and video), featuring book and movie reviews, articles, and helpful ideas and tips for growing a story-shaped family.
